Red-Headed Woodpecker
The Red-Headed Woodpecker is a medium-sized bird that is easily recognised for its vivid red head, neck and breast. The Woodpecker’s strong bill enables it to peck holes in wood to find insects; its main food source in the summer. Adult Red-Headed Woodpeckers often return to the same nesting site year after year. Between May and June, females lay between three and seven eggs. Both parents incubate the eggs and tend to the young. The Red-Headed Woodpecker lives in woodlands and is often found in parks, golf courses and cemeteries. The Red-Headed Woodpecker has experienced a population decline of 70% throughout Canada since the 1980s. This is mainly due to the destruction of its habitat and nesting sites because of urban development. Aves Coffee Co. supports conservation efforts to protect the natural habitat of birds like the Red-headed Woodpecker.
